kid-friendly remodel
Kids can enjoy the remodeling process as well as the results!

Transforming your kitchen, bathroom, or basement into something new can be stressful and time-consuming. Trying to undergo a remodel while also juggling children can be even more difficult. How can you prepare your home and remodeling areas to have a successful and kid-friendly remodel?

Keep an Eye Out for Safety Concerns

If you have young children, keep an eye out for any safety concerns. Windows are one of the most vulnerable places in your home for intruders and, well, escapees! Always secure your windows with child-proof locks and make sure that nothing is in front of windows during or after the remodeling process to provide a climbing surface. If you have older windows, replacement windows with child-proof locks are the best choice.

Choose Easy to Clean Surfaces

If you are remodeling your kitchen or bathroom, make sure that you choose surfaces that are easy to clean. Things like flooring, countertops, and other surfaces are all magnets for toddlers and young children. Always talk with your contractor about which surfaces are easiest to clean and maintain with small toddlers and lots of spills around the house to ensure you get the most out of your investment. Think about which surfaces are easy to clean when choosing new furniture as well. Leather is very easy to clean, but carpets and textiles can become soiled and stained easily.

Keep Play Areas Tidy

Last but not least, during the remodeling process you should ensure that all of your child’s favorite play areas are usable and clean. A kid-friendly remodel is totally possible, as long as the places your child typically spends time are deemed more interesting than the ones full of hammers and nails. Keep all play spots tidy and move anything of your child’s from areas being remodeled to somewhere else, so that you don’t need to deal with consoling a toddler missing their favorite teddy bear.
